TreePeople is an environmental nonprofit organization that mobilizes individuals, families, communities, philanthropists, and public agencies to work together to create green, resilient communities by providing education on the benefits of planting trees, capturing the rainwater, greening schools, and providing fun environmental educational activities. TreePeople is also dedicated to preserving the natural and cultural resources of Southern California through habitat restoration, land acquisition and conservation easements through the TreePeople Land Trust.
We are seeking a Stewardship Manager to join Land Trust dedicated team. This position will be responsible for managing land improvements and real estate projects for 3,000 acres at our Land Trust location in Calabasas. Under the supervision of the Deputy Director, the Stewardship Manager will analyze and design projects for the land owned, managed and monitored by TreePeople Land Trust.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Serve as the Land Trust’s primary contact with agencies such as the US Army Corps of Engineers, CA Department of Fish and Wildlife, and Regional Water Quality Control Board to administer the compensatory habitat mitigation program.
- Oversee the development of new real estate acquisitions, mitigation projects, and capital improvements on our lands.
- Manage staff and coordinate with the forestry department to implement a variety of restoration and trail projects across our real estate portfolio.
- Ensure that all projects follow federal, state, and local laws and ordinances.
- Oversee the monitoring and enforcement of conservation easements, generate annual reports for easements, fee title, and managed properties.
- Assist the Deputy Director and finance department with annual reports and billings for grant and mitigation projects.
- Other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- 2+ years of related experience.
- Bachelors’ degree in natural resources, forestry or other related field is a plus.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work with minimum supervision.
- Ability to interact with public and volunteers with diverse backgrounds and perspectives.
- Must be organized with a strong attention to detail.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to hike and safely work on difficult terrain in all weather conditions.
- Able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Able to walk, stand, stoop for long periods of time.
- Possess a valid drivers license and have a clean driving record.
- Flexible to work occasionally on the weekends or in the evening as needed.
- Wilderness First Aid and CPR certification is a plus.
- Trail and green infrastructure maintenance skills (erosion control, trail engineering, etc.) and familiarity a plus.
