Volunteers
No matter how many acres MRT owns or manages, no matter how many grant awards we receive – our organization is really measured by the people whose lives we touch. Volunteers are the heart and soul of the land trust movement. Without the dedication and devotion of people like you – the volunteers – the preservation and protection of this nation’s natural resources could not happen.
As a MRT volunteer, you will experience nature and conservation firsthand. You will meet people who share your interests and passion, and YOU WILL MAKE A DIFFERENCE!
About Our Regularly Scheduled Community Restoration Events:
Our community restoration events involve helping on our various restoration projects. This involves rewarding, outdoor work. We offer vegetation restoration events and crayfish removal events multiple times a month at our different restoration sites. The vegetation restoration events involve planting and caring for native trees and plants, and weeding out the invasive plants. The crayfish removal events involve trapping non-native crayfish, recording data, and removing trash in the streams of the Malibu Creek Watershed. Additionally, we host volunteer events to help maintain our lands by picking up trash and removing graffiti.
All of our volunteer opportunities are open to all ages, however volunteers under the age of 18 must bring a signed parental consent form and volunteers under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
Group Volunteer Events:
MRT can host community service days or field trips to learn about the local ecosystem and to help us out with our restoration projects. We welcome schools, corporations, religious groups, community groups, clubs and anyone else that is interested in helping out the environment.

How to get involved
To get started, take a look at our calendar of events below and register via our Eventbrite page. Once registered, you will receive a confirmation email with the event details and directions. Registration is required for all events. We have a limited amount of tools and supplies and want to make sure all our volunteers are covered.
Additional Volunteer Opportunities
- Docents – Guides who lead hikes and tours for school and adult groups because they love to help people explore the great outdoors.
- Outreach – Help MRT build its constituency and increase participation. Table for MRT at farmers markets and other local events.
- Administrative – Help keep our office running.
- Fundraising – Help put on special events to encourage donations.
- Patrol – Help to monitor our lands and areas to prevent vandalism and illegal dumping.
- Many more – Contact us if you have an innovative idea, or can contribute your expertise to a very worthwhile cause – saving our environment.
Internships
Are you looking for hands-on experience in the areas of environmental science or restoration ecology? Do you enjoy working outdoors and are interested in helping with a habitat restoration project? MRT offers opportunities to help your future career while supporting a progressive effort in local environmental protection.
