Fire is a part of the ecology in the Santa Monica Mountains.  MRT facilitated the Monte Nido Fire Safety program as part of a grant that was received from the Community Assistance Program of the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area and the U.S Department of the Interior, National Parks Service.

The California Fire Safe Council educated residents of the Monte Nido community on wildland fire safety and how to reduce hazardous biofuel, such as Eucalyptus trees.  MRT hosted seminars and fairs to give residents the opportunity to interface with the Fire Safe Council, County, and Federal fire planners, educators, and vendors that specialize in fire preparedness.
