Help Mountains Restoration Trust (MRT) understand the impact of the devasting 2016 Old Fire on our local bird community.  In collaboration with Bird LA Day, Join MRT staff on a guided walk of our property where we will use pre-fire bird lists to look at the impact of fire events on the locals birds of the Santa Monica Mountains.

Please arrive at Headwaters Corner at 8 am ready to bird!  Some parking available at Headwaters Corner and additional street parking with walking required on Old Topanga Canyon Rd (3871 Old Topanga Canyon Rd).  We will provide field notebooks but please come prepared with binoculars, comfortable hiking shoes with good grip, hiking clothes, a hat/sunglasses, plenty of water, and your favorite bird guide!  Space is limited to 30 participants, so please RSVP.  No previous experience birding is required to RSVP for the event but a general knowlege of the birds of Southern California will make this a more successful outing.

Pre-fire bird lists will be emailed out prior to the event and a complete list of the birds of the Santa Monica Mountains can be found here and of the entire Los Angeles area here.  We will document our findings using the online citizen science platform eBird created by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology.  Participants will be trained to use this software before heading out on the hike.  All photos of the event should include the hashtags #BirdLADay and #BirdsofMRT.
