On Bird LA Day, be the first to experience Mountains Restoration Trust’s first bird-dedicated trail with renowned ornithology experts, Dr. Tom Smith and Dr. Brenda Larison from UCLA. MRT will provide binoculars and Dr. Smith and Larison will share their bird knowledge with you.
Our bird-dedicated trail, made possible by San Fernando Valley Audubon, traverses through five different habitats in the lower Cold Creek Preserve (coastal sage scrub, chaparral, grassland, riparian, and oak woodland habitats) where you often find wrentits, acorn woodpeckers, Cooper’s hawks, among many others. Marking this newly dedicated trail are signs with various bird and habitat identifications.
Please arrive at the trailhead at 8 am ready to bird! To view a map for travel and parking instructions, click here. We will provide binoculars but please come prepared with comfortable hiking shoes with good grip, hiking clothes, a hat/sunglasses, plenty of water, and your favorite bird guide! Space is limited to 30 participants, so please RSVP. No previous birding experience is required to RSVP for the event.
Bird lists generated from the nearest e-Bird hotspot will be emailed out prior to the event and a complete list of the birds of the Santa Monica Mountains can be found here and of the entire Los Angeles area here. #BirdLADay and #BirdsofMRT.
